A burr grinder can make everyday coffee routines more consistent because it is built to produce a more controlled grind than a basic blade grinder. In practice, that matters whether you brew a quick weekday drip pot, a slow pour-over on weekends, or a fuller-bodied French press. The right choice depends less on hype and more on how you brew, how much control you want, and how much setup convenience matters in your kitchen. This 2027 guide focuses on verified product details from the supplied research, with special attention to grind range, batch controls, cleaning, included accessories, and listing clarity. That last point matters more than many shoppers expect: for several models here, the grinder itself may be well defined, but the exact ASIN or bundle version still deserves a careful check before purchase. Baratza Encore Coffee Grinder | ZCG485BLK Quick take Baratza Encore Coffee Grinder | ZCG485BLK Burrs: 40 mm M3 conical steel burrsSettings: 40 stepped grind adjustmentsOperation: Manual dosing with on/off and pulse controlCapacity: 300 g hopper, 120 g grounds binSupport: Manuals, parts, and repair resources available Check Price Read our full review → As an Amazon Associate, we may earn a small commission from qualifying purchases. Best for: Home brewers focused on drip, pour-over, and French press who want a simple stepped burr grinder with official parts support. Listing verification warning: Exact product/ASIN identity not independently confirmed: Manufacturer evidence confirms the Encore ZCG485 family, but the notes do not provide reliable primary evidence that Amazon ASIN B007F183LK maps exactly to this specific model/bundle. The Baratza Encore Coffee Grinder in the ZCG485 family is the standard Encore, not the espresso-oriented Encore ESP or ESP Pro. That distinction is central for buyers comparing similar-sounding Baratza models. Official Baratza material identifies the current black version under an extended SKU derived from the same family code, supporting ZCG485BLK as a shorthand model reference. What remains unresolved is whether ASIN B007F183LK points to this exact current unit or to a legacy marketplace listing. As a product, the Encore is a home electric burr grinder built around 40 mm M3 conical steel burrs, 40 stepped settings, and manual dosing. Baratza positions it most naturally for brewed coffee styles such as filter methods and French press, while also maintaining strong documentation and replacement-parts support. Key specifications Burr set: 40 mm conical steel burrs (M3) Grind adjustments: 40 stepped settings Bean hopper capacity: 300 g Grounds bin capacity: 120 g Power: 70 W, 100–120 VAC, 50/60 Hz Burr speed: 550 RPM no-load What the specifications mean in practice For real kitchen use, the Encore’s strongest case is as a straightforward daily grinder for brewed coffee rather than as an all-format specialist. Baratza’s official specifications confirm 40 stepped settings, a 300 g hopper, and M3 40 mm conical steel burrs, which together describe a grinder built for approachable adjustment and repeatable home brewing. The listed grind rates of roughly 1.3 g/sec at setting 10 and 2.2 g/sec at setting 30 also suggest a pace suited to single-batch household preparation instead of high-volume grinding. Its strengths are grounded in verified, model-specific details rather than broad marketplace claims. The standard Encore has a clearly identified burr set that differs from the Encore ESP family, which matters because product listings often blur these machines together. Baratza also confirms support materials, replacement parts, diagrams, and a one-year manufacturer warranty. That support ecosystem can be just as important as the grinder itself for buyers who prefer a maintainable appliance over a sealed, harder-to-service alternative. The trade-offs are equally important. Baratza’s own guidance says stepped grinders like the standard Encore are particularly well suited to filter brewing and French press, while precision espresso dialing can be more difficult if the ideal grind lands between steps. There is also an identity caveat for this specific listing: the research supports the ZCG485 Encore family, but not a definitive ASIN match for B007F183LK. Buyers comparing seller pages should therefore verify the exact model variant and included package contents before treating this as a confirmed one-to-one listing. Notable product features Burrs: 40 mm M3 conical steel burrs Settings: 40 stepped grind adjustments Operation: Manual dosing with on/off and pulse control Capacity: 300 g hopper, 120 g grounds bin Support: Manuals, parts, and repair resources available THE QUICK TAKE Baratza Encore Coffee Grinder | ZCG485BLK — Pros & Cons 4–5 practical advantages and trade-offs, based on researched specifications. ✓Pros ✓ Clear model-family identification Official Baratza sources support this as the standard Encore, distinct from Encore ESP models and their burr systems. ✓ Wide stepped grind range Forty grind settings give practical coverage for drip, pour-over, and French press without complex adjustment. ✓ Known burr specification The standard Encore uses 40 mm M3 conical steel burrs, a verified spec often confused with ESP variants. ✓ Straightforward daily controls Manual dosing, a front pulse function, and simple on/off operation suit routine home grinding. ✓ Repair and parts support Baratza documents, replacement parts, diagrams, and warranty support are all confirmed through official resources. −Cons − ASIN mapping unresolved Primary sources supplied here do not confirm that B007F183LK exactly matches the current black standard Encore listing. − Not espresso-specialized Baratza notes stepped adjustment can make espresso dialing harder when the ideal grind falls between clicks. − Manual dosing only Official specs list manual dosing, so buyers seeking built-in timed or weight-based dosing will need another model. − Modest grounds capacity The verified 120 g grounds bin suits home use, but it is limited for larger-volume batch grinding. − Unverified marketing claims Claims about a named 2020 update or SCA award wording were not confirmed in the cited manufacturer sources. My takeThe Baratza Encore ZCG485 remains a well-defined choice for home coffee drinkers who mainly brew filter coffee, pour-over, or French press and want clear controls, verified burr specs, and dependable manufacturer support. Buying advice and important trade-offs Choose the Baratza Encore ZCG485 if you want a home electric burr grinder primarily for filter coffee, immersion brewing, and general-purpose manual brewing. The verified 40 stepped settings, M3 40 mm steel burrs, and modest throughput make it a practical fit for users who value simplicity over espresso-specific precision. Before buying through a marketplace listing, confirm the exact package identity because the ASIN connection is unresolved in the supplied evidence. If your main goal is repeatable espresso dialing, Baratza’s own guidance suggests the standard Encore’s stepped adjustment is less ideal than an Encore ESP-style alternative. Model or listing note: Identity needs review: manufacturer evidence supports the standard Baratza Encore in the ZCG485 family, with black SKU forms including ZCG485BLK1AUC1A and shorthand ZCG485BLK. However, the provided research does not directly verify that Amazon ASIN B007F183LK maps exactly to this current black standard Encore rather than a legacy listing, refreshed package, or bundle variation. Also unresolved: seller-style claims about a specific '2020 update' and 'SCA award winning' were not confirmed in the cited primary sources. Best for: Home coffee drinkers who want adjustable grind size, batch control, and easier cleaning in a standard household burr grinder. Listing verification warning: Exact product/ASIN identity not independently confirmed: Official manufacturer evidence supports model 80385, but the cited notes explicitly state ASIN B07YQLF481 was not verified from a primary Amazon listing and is only secondarily associated. Exact ASIN-to-product identity remains unconfirmed. The Hamilton Beach Electric Burr Coffee Grinder 80385 is positioned as a practical home burr grinder for buyers who want more control than a basic blade grinder without moving into enthusiast-grade equipment. Hamilton Beach’s official listing confirms the essentials that matter most in this category: 18 grind settings, a 2-to-14-cup quantity selector, and a design built around whole-bean coffee use. For a buyer guide, that combination makes it a relevant option for kitchens where brewing style changes from day to day. In real use scenarios, the strongest appeal is flexibility. The manufacturer markets the grind range from extra-fine to coarse, covering everything from espresso-style finer grinds to drip coffee and French press. That means a household using different brewers does not need a single-purpose grinder. The cup selector also adds practical convenience for avoiding oversized batches when making a couple of cups, while still accommodating larger brews. Retailer materials further suggest a large hopper of about 16 ounces, which supports less frequent refilling. Its other notable advantage is cleanup. Hamilton Beach specifies a removable top burr for cleaning, an included cleaning brush, and dishwasher-safe containers and lids. The removable front grounds bin with a snap-on lid also suggests less scatter when pouring grounds into a brewer. The trade-offs are mostly about verification rather than outright flaws: the exact burr geometry is not clearly confirmed by Hamilton Beach in the cited excerpt, even though Target describes flat burrs; the often-repeated herbs-and-spices claim is not verified from the official product page; and the ASIN association to B07YQLF481 remains probable rather than primary-source confirmed. Those unresolved contradictions do not erase the grinder’s documented strengths, but they do matter for careful comparison shopping. Key specifications Model: 80385 Product type: Electric burr coffee grinder Grind settings: 18 settings, extra-fine to coarse Batch selector: 2 to 14 cups Grounds container: Removable front bin with snap-on lid Electrical: 120V ~ 60Hz household use What the specifications mean in practice Official manufacturer evidence supports model 80385 as a Hamilton Beach burr coffee grinder with 18 settings and 2-to-14-cup selection. The grinder is best understood as a consumer home model emphasizing adjustability, batch sizing, and easier cleanup rather than specialty-grade documentation. Unresolved contradictions should be stated plainly: ASIN identity is not primary-source verified, flat burr geometry is retailer-supported only, and spice-grinding claims remain unverified. Notable product features Grind Settings: 18 levels from extra-fine to coarse Batch Selector: Adjustable for 2 to 14 cups Grounds Bin: Removable front container with snap-on lid Cleaning: Removable top burr and included brush Power: Standard 120V, 60Hz household use THE QUICK TAKE Hamilton Beach Electric Burr Coffee Grinder | 80385 — Pros & Cons 4–5 practical advantages and trade-offs, based on researched specifications. ✓Pros ✓ Wide grind range Eighteen settings span extra-fine through coarse, covering espresso-style, drip, and French press needs per manufacturer copy. ✓ Flexible batch selector The 2-to-14-cup selector suits both small daily brews and larger household batches without guessing portions. ✓ Large bean hopper Secondary retailer materials indicate about 16 ounces or 2 cups of bean capacity for fewer refills. ✓ Cleaner grounds handling The removable front grounds container includes a snap-on lid that helps reduce mess during transfer. ✓ Easier maintenance setup A removable top burr, included cleaning brush, and dishwasher-safe containers simplify routine cleanup after grinding. −Cons − ASIN mapping unresolved B07YQLF481 is linked by secondary sources, but this research did not confirm it on a live primary Amazon listing. − Burr geometry unclear Target describes flat burrs, but Hamilton Beach’s cited official page excerpt did not clearly confirm burr type. − Spice use unverified Claims about grinding herbs or spices were not supported by the official Hamilton Beach page or cited manual snippet. − Hopper size not official The roughly 16-ounce or 2-cup hopper capacity is retailer-supported rather than clearly stated in the official excerpt. My takeFor buyers comparing midrange home coffee grinders, the Hamilton Beach 80385 stands out for its verified 18 grind settings, 2-to-14-cup selector, removable top burr, and cleanup-friendly parts. Buying advice and important trade-offs Choose this grinder if you want a straightforward electric burr model with clearly stated grind adjustment, batch selection, and cleanup-friendly parts for home coffee brewing. It makes the most sense for households brewing multiple styles, from finer drip-oriented settings to coarse French press grinds, while staying within standard 120V household use. Before ordering, confirm the seller’s listing matches model 80385 exactly. If you specifically need manufacturer-confirmed flat burr geometry or verified support for herbs and spices, those points remain unresolved in the cited sources and should be checked against the exact listing and manual. Model or listing note: Important identity disclosure: Hamilton Beach officially identifies model 80385 as the Hamilton Beach Burr Coffee Grinder, Stainless, 80385. However, ASIN B07YQLF481 was not confirmed from a primary Amazon product page in this research pass. Secondary sources repeatedly associate that ASIN with model 80385, but the exact ASIN-to-variant mapping remains unresolved and should be verified before purchase, especially if bundle contents or finish matter. Best for: Home coffee drinkers wanting a straightforward electric burr grinder for batch brewing across drip, press, percolator, and general-purpose daily use. Listing verification warning: Exact product/ASIN identity not independently confirmed: Best-supported manufacturer model is DBM-8P1, but ASIN linkage relies on Amazon-hosted/manual metadata and retailer references rather than direct manufacturer confirmation of this exact ASIN/listing identity. The Cuisinart Supreme Grind Automatic Burr Mill DBM-8P1 is positioned as a compact consumer electric burr coffee grinder aimed at convenient home batch brewing. Cuisinart’s official product page confirms an 18-position grind selector, 4–18 cup slide dial, removable 8-ounce bean hopper, removable grind chamber sized for up to 32 cups, one-touch power bar, automatic shutoff, cord storage, BPA-free construction, and an 18-month limited warranty. That spec sheet paints a picture of a practical countertop grinder designed for everyday flexibility rather than specialty-level coffee experimentation. In real kitchen use cases, the strongest argument for this model is breadth of brewing compatibility. Cuisinart officially describes the range as running from ultra-fine to extra-coarse, with intended use spanning espresso, automatic drip, percolator, and French press. The 18-position selector and 4–18 cup dial should appeal to households that brew in varying quantities and want a grinder that feels more tailored than a one-button blade unit. The removable hopper and grind chamber also support easier filling, emptying, and cleaning, while the manual’s safety interlock adds reassurance for routine use. The trade-offs are equally important. Official sources do not publish burr diameter, RPM, retention, grind distribution, or stepless adjustment details, so buyers should avoid assuming prosumer-level precision. There are also unresolved listing contradictions worth stating clearly: a 500-watt motor claim is not verified by the manufacturer materials reviewed here, and stainless-steel burr material is also not confirmed in the cited official sources. In short, this grinder looks best suited to shoppers who want a verified feature set for general home brewing and are willing to skip unconfirmed marketplace claims. Key specifications Model: DBM-8P1 Official product name: Supreme Grind Automatic Burr Mill Grind settings: 18-position selector Cup selector range: 4–18 cups Bean hopper capacity: 8 oz Listed weight: 3.57 lb What the specifications mean in practice Cuisinart’s own product page strongly establishes DBM-8P1 as the current supported retail model name and core feature set. The grinder’s design favors convenient batch grinding with measured cup-based dosing rather than highly granular specialty calibration. Manual-backed safety interlocks and top-rack dishwasher-safe removable parts add practical usability credentials for everyday households. Several common marketplace claims remain unresolved, especially exact ASIN identity confirmation, motor wattage, and burr material. Notable product features Grind Settings: 18-position selector Capacity Dial: 4–18 cup slide control Bean Hopper: Removable, 8-ounce maximum Auto Shutoff: Stops after grinding cycle Cleaning Support: Scoop with cleaning brush included THE QUICK TAKE Cuisinart Supreme Grind Electric Burr Coffee Grinder | DBM-8P1 — Pros & Cons 4–5 practical advantages and trade-offs, based on researched specifications. ✓Pros ✓ Wide household grind range Officially offers 18 positions spanning ultra-fine to extra-coarse for espresso, drip, percolator, and French press use. ✓ Straightforward batch control The slide dial covers 4 to 18 cups, helping match grind quantity to common home brewing volumes. ✓ Removable bean hopper An 8-ounce removable hopper makes filling and emptying simpler than fixed-top grinder designs. ✓ Practical safety interlock The grinder will not operate unless the hopper and grind chamber are properly installed, according to the manual. ✓ Useful included accessory Cuisinart lists a scoop and cleaning brush, adding a small but practical maintenance tool in the box. −Cons − ASIN linkage not manufacturer-confirmed Research supports a DBM-8/DBM-8P1 match, but Cuisinart does not directly confirm ASIN B00018RRRK. − Motor wattage unverified Some listings mention 500 watts, but the official product page and manual do not support that figure. − Burr material unresolved Official sources confirm burr grinding plates, yet do not verify stainless-steel burr construction specifically. − Limited technical transparency No official burr size, RPM, retention, or grind distribution data is published in the sources provided. − Not espresso-specialist documented Cuisinart lists espresso capability, but the available specs do not establish specialty espresso adjustment precision. My takeThe Cuisinart DBM-8P1 stands out as a practical home burr grinder with verified batch-friendly controls, removable components, and broad brew-method intent. Its appeal is strongest for everyday drip, press, and general household coffee prep. Just treat unverified listing claims carefully, and do not assume specialty espresso precision from the official specifications alone. Buying advice and important trade-offs This model makes the most sense for shoppers who want a simple electric burr grinder for regular brewed-coffee use and value easy batch grinding over advanced tuning. The 18-position selector, 4–18 cup dial, and removable chambers fit households making drip coffee, press coffee, or occasional finer grinds without needing stepless adjustments or published espresso-focused performance metrics. Be careful with marketplace claims: the available sources do not verify a 500-watt motor or stainless-steel burr material, so those should not drive your decision. If you want broad brewing flexibility, safety interlocks, dishwasher-safe removable parts, and replacement-part availability from an established brand, it is a sensible mainstream pick. If you specifically need high-precision espresso dialing, single-dosing workflow, or detailed burr and retention specifications, the official information here is too limited to confirm that kind of specialty performance. Model or listing note: Important identity disclosure: the strongest manufacturer-backed identification is Cuisinart model DBM-8P1, sold as the Supreme Grind Automatic Burr Mill. Available evidence suggests ASIN B00018RRRK maps to the DBM-8/DBM-8P1 grinder line, but the manufacturer source provided does not directly confirm that exact ASIN. If the listing title, photos, included accessories, or packaging differ, verify the unit and bundle contents before buying. Best for: Home coffee drinkers who want a versatile electric burr grinder for batch brewing, with occasional direct-to-portafilter use. Listing verification warning: Exact product/ASIN identity not independently confirmed: ASIN-specific manual evidence supports Amazon Basics model CG9413-UL for B0DRBXS9RH. However, accessory/package details rely partly on related-model/manual-family sources, so the exact listed bundle is not fully confirmed from primary evidence alone. The Amazon Basics Burr Coffee Grinder tied to ASIN B0DRBXS9RH is documented as US model CG9413-UL, a 120V, 150W electric grinder aimed at everyday home brewing. Based on the ASIN-specific manual, its strongest confirmed points are a 185 g bean hopper, a 200 g grounds container, a grind-adjustment system with quantity-based automatic grinding, and a separate manual mode that can work with a funnel bracket for direct dispensing. For shoppers comparing budget-friendly burr grinders, that combination suggests a machine built for convenience more than for tightly documented specialty specs. In practical use, the grinder is positioned for households making multiple brew styles rather than sticking to a single method. Listing ties it to French press, drip coffee, and espresso, and the control layout described in the manual supports easy day-to-day operation: choose the grind setting, set the quantity with the gear knob, and press the grind button for automatic output. That should appeal to buyers who want less guesswork than a simple on/off grinder. The inclusion of a manual press-and-hold function is also notable, especially because it works with a funnel bracket and acknowledges direct grinding into a portafilter workflow, even though the portafilter itself is not included. Its strengths are balanced by documentation gaps buyers should take seriously. The most obvious contradiction is the grind range: the listing markets 30 settings, while the manual states 31 grind-size options. Another unresolved point is the burr style, with a third-party listing mirror identifying a flat burr design, but the surfaced manual material does not clearly confirm that detail. Cleaning guidance is also a little mixed. A related manual-family source supports dishwasher cleaning for removable parts such as the hopper, grounds container, and funnel bracket, but the exact wording was not clearly verified in the main US manual extract. Likewise, BPA-free material claims were not verified from the reviewed manual sources. For a buyer guide, the key takeaway is straightforward: this Amazon Basics grinder appears to be a flexible, feature-conscious home burr grinder with useful capacity and a more versatile operating setup than many basic models. It is easier to recommend for general home coffee use than for shoppers who need every listing detail nailed down with primary-source certainty. Key specifications Model: Amazon Basics CG9413-UL Bean hopper capacity: 185 g / 6.5 oz Grounds container capacity: 200 g / 7 oz Electrical rating: 120 V~, 60 Hz Power: 150 W Color: Black What the specifications mean in practice ASIN-specific manual evidence identifies B0DRBXS9RH as Amazon Basics model CG9413-UL in black. Manual-backed capacities are stronger evidence than the mirrored listing's dimension and burr-type details. The grinder supports two distinct workflows: automatic quantity grinding and press-and-hold manual dispensing. French press, drip, and espresso positioning suggests versatility, but not tightly verified espresso-centric precision claims. Accessory and cleaning details are directionally positive, though some points come from related manual-family material. Notable product features Grind settings: Listing says 30; manual states 31 grind-size options. Auto quantity control: Set the gear knob, then press grind. Manual mode: Press-and-hold grinding works with the funnel bracket. Hopper capacity: 185 g / 6.5 oz per manual. Portafilter support: Funnel bracket included; portafilter not included. THE QUICK TAKE Amazon Basics Burr Coffee Grinder — Pros & Cons 4–5 practical advantages and trade-offs, based on researched specifications. ✓Pros ✓ Large hopper capacity The manual lists a 185 g bean hopper, enough for larger home batches without frequent refilling. ✓ Quantity-based auto grinding The manual confirms a cup/quantity control with automatic grinding started by pressing the grind button. ✓ Manual portafilter mode A funnel bracket and hold-to-grind manual mode support direct grinding workflows, though a portafilter is not included. ✓ Broad grind-range claim The product is documented for French press, drip coffee, and espresso, indicating multi-method home brewing flexibility. ✓ Removable accessory set Manual-family documentation shows removable hopper, grounds container, lid, seal ring, funnel bracket, and scoop/spoon. −Cons − 30 vs 31 settings Listing copy says 30 settings, while the manual states 31 grind-size options, leaving the exact count unresolved. − Burr type less certain A third-party source describes a flat burr mechanism, but the surfaced manual extract does not clearly confirm it. − Bundle confirmation incomplete Some included-accessory details rely partly on related manual-family documentation rather than only the ASIN-specific manual. − BPA-free not verified Reviewed manual sources did not confirm the BPA-free materials claim sometimes associated with this grinder. − Cup range not confirmed The manual confirms quantity-based selection, but not the exact 4-to-12-cup range cited elsewhere. My takeThe Amazon Basics CG9413-UL looks like a sensible home burr grinder for buyers who want convenient quantity-based grinding, solid hopper capacity, and the option to grind through a funnel bracket into a portafilter setup. Check Price Read the full review → As an Amazon Associate, we may earn a small commission from qualifying purchases. Buying advice and important trade-offs This model makes the most sense for buyers who want an entry-level electric burr grinder with both automatic quantity grinding and a manual hold-to-grind mode. If you brew across several methods, the stated French press-to-espresso range is appealing, but buyers who want perfectly documented espresso-focused specs should note the unresolved 30-versus-31 setting discrepancy and the less-certain flat-burr claim. If easy-cleaning claims matter, treat dishwasher-safe support as probable but not fully confirmed in the main US manual, and do not rely on BPA-free language because it was not verified from the reviewed primary sources. Model or listing note: Identity evidence supports ASIN B0DRBXS9RH as the Amazon Basics Burr Coffee Grinder, black, model CG9413-UL, based on an ASIN-specific manual. However, some package-detail and accessory confirmation relies partly on related manual-family sources, so the exact included bundle should be treated as not fully confirmed. Unresolved contradictions also remain around 30 settings versus 31 grind-size options, and some listing claims are not fully verified in the primary manual. Best for: Home coffee drinkers wanting one grinder for espresso and multiple manual or batch brew methods The Fellow Opus 2 Conical Burr Grinder is positioned as an all-purpose electric grinder for households brewing across several methods rather than locking into a single style. Fellow’s official specifications tie this model to espresso, pour-over, drip machines, AeroPress, French press, and cold brew, which gives it unusually broad intended coverage for a compact countertop grinder. For shoppers comparing Amazon listings carefully, this matters because ASIN B0FPCHNSX2 appears to map correctly to the Black Opus 2 rather than the older original Opus or a bundle with changed accessories. In practical buying terms, the biggest reason Opus 2 stands out is the hardware revision. Fellow specifies larger 48 mm stainless-steel conical burrs, a redesigned low-retention grind path, and a stepless side adjustment dial that no longer requires the internal adjustment changes associated with the earlier Opus design. The company also lists automatic stop when grinding completes, plus a jam alert, which supports a cleaner daily workflow for people making back-to-back cups or dialing between espresso and brewed coffee settings. The trade-offs are mostly about interpretation rather than missing information. Fellow describes the grinder as stepless, but also says it offers 48 adjustable settings. That is best read as a continuous-style adjustment range organized into 48 reference positions, not a classic stepped click system. There is also a listing-language nuance around accessories: some retail copy may imply two catch cups, while Fellow’s support documentation more precisely lists one 100 g standard catch cup and one 30 g espresso dosing cup. Neither point disqualifies the grinder, but both are worth understanding before purchase. Key specifications Dimensions: 206 x 130 x 267 mm Weight: 2.3 kg Power: 300 W Cord length: 0.9 m Load bin capacity: 100 g Espresso dosing cup capacity: 30 g What the specifications mean in practice ASIN B0FPCHNSX2 is research-verified as the Black Fellow Opus 2, matching official manufacturer positioning rather than the earlier Opus. Fellow’s most important upgrade claim is the move to 48 mm stainless-steel conical burrs, replacing the original Opus’ smaller burr set. The grinder is explicitly designed as a multi-method option, covering espresso through cold brew in one electric platform. Adjustment language is the main unresolved contradiction: Fellow says stepless while also advertising 48 adjustable settings. Included accessories are unusually well documented by the manufacturer, especially the 54 mm/58 mm-compatible espresso dosing cup and magnetic brush. Tool-free burr access, automatic shutoff, and low-retention design point to convenience-oriented ownership rather than commercial-scale throughput. Notable product features Burrs: 48 mm stainless-steel conical set Adjustment: Stepless side dial with 48 reference positions Cleaning: Tool-free burr access and magnetic brush included Workflow: Automatic stop and jam alert Included cup: 30 g espresso dosing cup for 54/58 mm portafilters THE QUICK TAKE Fellow Opus 2 Conical Burr Grinder — Pros & Cons 4–5 practical advantages and trade-offs, based on researched specifications. ✓Pros ✓ Wide brewing coverage Officially designed for espresso, pour-over, drip, AeroPress, French press, and cold brew use. ✓ Larger 48 mm burrs Fellow specifies stainless-steel 48 mm conical burrs, a notable change from the earlier Opus model. ✓ Simplified adjustment system Support materials say Opus 2 removes internal adjustment changes and uses a seamless side-dial range. ✓ Low-retention workflow Fellow describes a redesigned grind path with near-zero retention for less old coffee left behind. ✓ Included espresso dosing cup Box contents include a 30 g dosing cup compatible with 54 mm and 58 mm portafilters. −Cons − Stepped vs stepless wording Fellow cites stepless adjustment and 48 settings, which may confuse buyers expecting a simple click-stepped grinder. − Cord length is modest The official 0.9 m power cord may limit placement on larger kitchens or distant outlet setups. − Not a large hopper design The load bin and standard catch cup are both rated at 100 g, prioritizing modest home batches. − Accessory wording can mislead Some listing copy says two catch cups, but Fellow specifies one catch cup and one espresso dosing cup. − Original Opus confusion risk Older first-generation Opus documentation lists different burrs and adjustment design, so comparison shopping requires care. My takeFellow Opus 2 looks like a well-specified all-purpose grinder for home users who move between espresso and brewed coffee. Its verified strengths are the larger 48 mm burrs, broad brew-method support, low-retention redesign, and thoughtful included accessories. The main caution is understanding the adjustment language and not confusing this model with the original Opus. Buying advice and important trade-offs This grinder makes the most sense for buyers who want one electric grinder to cover both espresso and brewed coffee without adding internal calibration steps. Check your counter space against the 8.1 x 5.1 x 10.5 inch footprint, and note the 0.9 m cord if outlet placement is tight. If your routine includes portafilter dosing, the included 54 mm/58 mm espresso cup is a meaningful convenience. If you prefer clearly stepped click-by-click adjustment, read Fellow’s language carefully: Opus 2 is described as stepless while also referencing 48 settings, so it behaves more like a guided continuous range than a traditional stepped grinder. Also avoid mixing specs with the original Fellow Opus, which used different burr size and adjustment architecture. Model or listing note: Identity appears verified: ASIN B0FPCHNSX2 matches the Fellow Opus 2 Conical Burr Grinder in Black, with Amazon title and bullets aligning to Fellow’s official Opus 2 page. The main remaining caution is wording nuance: Fellow includes one standard catch cup and one espresso dosing cup, not two identical grounds bins. Research sources www.amazon.com Opus 2 Conical Burr Grinder What's included with Opus 2? – Fellow Products www.williams-sonoma.com Buying guide: How to choose the right product Start with brew method. If your routine is mostly drip coffee, pour-over, or French press, a straightforward stepped grinder can be a very practical choice because repeatable settings are easy to return to. The Baratza Encore fits that kind of home use especially well, and its official parts support can matter for buyers who plan to keep a grinder for years. If you want to move between espresso and brewed coffee with one machine, the Fellow Opus 2 is the more clearly espresso-capable option in this group, thanks to its verified broad brew-method support and larger 48 mm conical burrs. By contrast, the Cuisinart DBM-8P1 is positioned more as a batch-brewing household grinder than as a specialty espresso tool. Next, look at how the grinder handles quantity and daily workflow. Some buyers want to grind only a single dose at a time, while others prefer a cup selector or a hopper-based approach for family brewing. Hamilton Beach 80385 has a verified 2-to-14-cup selector and 18 grind settings, which makes it easier to switch between a small weekday batch and a larger pot for guests. The Amazon Basics CG9413-UL also leans into convenience, offering quantity-based grinding and a funnel bracket that can support direct-to-portafilter use. That sort of flexibility can be useful if your household mixes standard brewed coffee with occasional espresso-style prep. Cleaning and maintenance are also worth attention, especially for anyone who changes beans often or wants less mess around the grinder. Hamilton Beach 80385 stands out here because the research verifies a removable top burr and cleanup-friendly parts. The Cuisinart DBM-8P1 also has removable components, which can help with routine upkeep. Fellow Opus 2 adds a low-retention redesign, a useful feature for people who do not want old grounds lingering when they switch between roast styles or brew methods. Meanwhile, the Baratza Encore's official parts support is a different kind of long-term advantage: it suggests an ownership path that is easier to maintain rather than simply replace. Finally, read listings carefully instead of assuming every title line is fully verified. That is especially important in this comparison because several products carry identity or feature caveats. The Baratza Encore, Hamilton Beach 80385, and Cuisinart DBM-8P1 all have unresolved ASIN mapping questions in the provided research, while the Amazon Basics grinder has a confirmed model identity but unresolved details such as 30 versus 31 settings. Even when the overall product seems right for your needs, it is smart to confirm the exact model number, finish, included accessories, and whether a seller is describing a standard unit, a refreshed package, or a bundle.
