A note from the author
Hi, I’m Dennis.
I’m a home coffee enthusiast who enjoys learning how to make better coffee and espresso at home. Mountain Top Gourmet grew out of that interest: understanding what makes a good cup, how different brewing methods work and which equipment features are actually useful.
My personal favourite way to brew is pour-over. I enjoy the control it offers, and I usually drink my coffee black so I can appreciate its natural flavours. But great coffee isn’t limited to one method. A French press, drip machine, AeroPress or espresso setup can all be a good fit for different routines.
This site is for curious beginners as well as home brewers who want to improve one part of their process. The aim is to make each article clear, practical and worth your time.

What you’ll find here
Brewing techniques
Step-by-step explanations for pour-over, French press, cold brew, AeroPress and other methods. Learn how water temperature, time, grind size and ratios influence the finished cup.
Coffee gear comparisons
Buying guides that consider practical details such as capacity, cleaning, controls, replacement parts and day-to-day convenience—not just a list of features.
Beans and flavour
Approachable explanations of roast levels, bean varieties, freshness, storage and why coffee can taste sour, bitter, rich or delicate.
Problem-solving guides
Useful checks when coffee tastes off, brewing takes too long or a piece of equipment isn’t behaving as expected. The goal is to help you make informed adjustments.
How our articles are researched
A helpful article should explain why a recommendation makes sense, where its information comes from and which details readers should verify themselves. That is especially important with coffee equipment, because model versions, included accessories and availability can change.
1. Start with the question
Focus on what the reader needs to decide or learn, rather than adding technical detail for its own sake.
2. Check reliable information
Use manufacturer specifications, product manuals and relevant brewing references when discussing equipment or techniques.
3. Explain the trade-offs
Compare ease of use, maintenance, size, compatibility and brewing style, including situations where a product may not be suitable.
4. Be clear about testing
Distinguish published specifications and research from documented hands-on experience. We don’t present an untested product as personally tested.
Brewing preferences vary. Rather than promise a universally perfect recipe or machine, we aim to give you sensible starting points and enough context to make your own choice.
A few good places to start

Independence, affiliate links and corrections
Some Mountain Top Gourmet articles contain affiliate shopping links. If you buy through an eligible link, the site may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. As an Amazon Associate, Mountain Top Gourmet may earn from qualifying purchases.
Affiliate links do not turn an opinion into a product test. Buying guides should explain where product details come from and avoid claims about personal use unless that experience has been documented.
Found something we should update? Coffee gear changes over time, and an older specification, link or instruction may need correction. Please include the article URL and the detail that needs attention so it can be reviewed.
